It makes the point of alliances and faction even more pointless. Look at it from the PoV of the controlling alliance. Would you want someone getting access to something easily while you spent a lot of time on it yourself?

If you don't have access to it, big deal. You can still beat the game. You can still PvP at a competative level.

HOWEVER, I think there should be something for some of the hardcore players that don't own Cavalon or House Zu Heltzer.

Maybe add 2 additional elite missions, but make the ones owned by alliances have the highest difficulty and rewards. That way, there is a reward for the alliance with the most faction AND everyone that isn't in that alliance can have something fun to do. This to me seems like the best way to keep everyone pleased. That and maybe give more incentive to the controlling alliance. I think I saw someone mention special weapon skins and armors. That could work, too.

Skill over time spent, simple premise that the elitiest hate. I payed the same amount of money as everyone else did, why should only certain people get to enjoy content simply beause they happen to be members of a certain aliance. To those that say they earned it, well, seeing as how its 12v12, and most guilds have far more members then 12 , I doubt some of you have truely "earned' it.

The elitest GW needs to step down and let the casual player have a little fun. As it stands, a casual person like myself, who is on maybe 3 hours a week(I actually haven't been on at all in a few weeks) has to spend that time killing monsters in lesser areas in order to find what? A green...no...a casual player doesn't hunt greens, because they're far to rare to find within the time that we are on, and one soon realizes that time can be spent doing better things. So what do we get? A crappy purple item, maybe a rare...

And yet the people who spend more time are able to get better items...and are called elite? Boy I sure must have missed the memo on that one, I thought NC Soft said that GW was rewarding based on skill, not time spent playing(i.e. getting faction, and playing elite missions, don't tell it doesn't take much time, it does, don't lie to yourself).

I think it's funny how NC Soft changed its stance on time played in one year. As soon as I learned abou the elite mission, complete /turnoff from GW. I'm a casual player, I'm never the best, I don't have the best items, my /age doesn't declare 3,500, I don't have much in the way of titles, I picked GW because I was told I didn't have to spend a lot of time to do well in it. But I've learned that all NC Soft wants is to kill any place where someone like me can find a decent item, and they only care about the people who spend more seconds being afk in aspenwood.

Elite mission should mean = your really have to play well and be on your toes and work together to succeed.
Not = Only available to those who farm 24/7 or have a sweatshop that does it for them or have everyone at the school in their guild working together.
And it would make getting into a group easier than it is now too.
'Elitism' is something we need less of not more.

Being in KEYS alliance myself, i think most people are missing whats up with the faction farming thing. Just like you guys that say "we dont want elite missions if it means farming" and nether do the majority of our guilds and members. Most of us are pretty hard core pve or pvp players, spend a great deal of time in the game and it's not because we loath playing it either.

Many of us enjoy playing the current variety of ways to earn faction far over that of farming the same quest over and over. There are alliance battles, jade, aspenwood, arena battles and playing all your characters through the game. So no, farming a faction quest over and over just isn't what the majority of us do.

Skill and the enjoyment level of playing the game are major factors in playing any game, of which GW is no different. Time is also a factor, many people just don't have the time to dedicate to the game, but then again, if they don't have the time to earn faction, they may not have any kind of time to do an elite mission either. Unskilled or unpracticed players are going to find the elite mission frustrating, troublesome and time consuming. Random players (especially ones without guilds) are going to have an even harder time getting in a group, especially if they don't fit into a cookie cutter build that has been posted numerous times here on guru, especially if you don't have teamspeak or vent. This mission isn't for you and probably will give you more grief then it's worth. In all honesty UW and FOW are far more challenging then either of the elite missions and the chances for the casual player to get in there is far greater and lately the returns are just as good, if not better then the 2 elite mission.

I'm not against letting people into the elite area and have ferried many, nor am i against keeping it under wraps so the casual players don't get a free ride. At this point i believe that anet has said as much as they WILL provide either an alternate way to these elite missions or simple open them up to everyone. So this thread, at this point should be closed, they've heard you and are working on it, umm yeah.

Pretty much, i'm on the fence, i understand the want to keep it elite, but i also understand the plight of the casual player (or ones not in a guild/alliance willing to do what it takes to gain access). I can only hope that in the future, issues like this don't become a sore thumb and that people will leave it up to the powers that be without flaming each other over how the game is actually designed.

i don't sign it i think its elite cause you have to deserve to play it

( and our alliance owns that town so >.> use our taxi's or the taxi's from keys when they own it and go into the deep in cavalon.)

but its a special area what else would be the use of owning a city like cavalon ? or hause zu heltzer?

I agree that elite missions should be made much more readily available to all players of all levels of dedication.

Getting to an elite mission is rarely a problem, as most of the controlling alliances (or rogue members for all I know) offer ferry services for free/tips/small fee.
Because of this, I dare say more than half the players you find "LFG" in the deep or the warren lack the skills and/or experience needed to complete these missions in a group of their peers.
This already makes it hard for some of the more dedicated players, of which I am one (duh), to find a group that actually manages to complete the mission.
100% free access for all would be bad IMNSHO. More scrubs, more sub par PUGs, and consequently fewer serious players (frustration->emmigration).
The way things are, they work, and do not need to be fixed. The elite missions should at least have a small speedbump to set them apart from other missions. I also think that it would downright suck if the only real advantages to owning a town, the access to elite missions, were taken away.
Random thought: Paying 10,000 Luxon/Kurzick faction to get a character to an elite mission would possibly be an acceptable entry cost for outsiders to bypass the owners.

PS: Most are aware of this, but not all; once a character has been to an elite mission, a guild or alliance member (or an officer in a different guild utilizing the guest funcion) can take your character there via their guild hall.

EDIT: Sorry for not following the request from OP. If a relevant active thread discussing this topic exists, feel free to move my post.

Getting access to content you've payed for should not depend on other players.

I agree Factions is in DESPERATE need of more difficult PVE options for thoose who have beaten the game. But i also like the idea of alliance success meaning something. I would be happy if they added additional missions and quests for people who have defeated Shiro. Something along the lines of "Defend X" that you get from glint after winning profecies. either one would go a long way to improving factions.

I agree as long as there is still a filter for getting in, such as having to complete "friend of the luxons" quest for the deep and "friend of the kurzic" for the urgoz.

theres lots of people lately "taxiing" you for free anyways, so theres little to no point in keeping it the way it is right now. better make it a challenge to get there, a challenge everyone can do , even if they are not lucky enough to be in an active guild, like myself

Getting to an elite mission really isn't all that difficult. I can't think of a time when I was in Cavalon or HZH and didn't see someone offering a ferry. Plus, if you like the missions that much, you can leave the character there. Either way, accessing them really isnt THAT difficult.

Having said that, I must also say that I think the current system is silly.

1) Anyone can get a ferry there. There is nothing elite about it.

2) You can be the uberelite, best of the best, but still not have "official" access because you don't like being tied to a large alliance.

3) Despite the fact that its easy to get a ferry, many people don't want to bother, leaving a very lifeless staging area. Several times, Ive gotten a ferry, only to find no group to go with.

4) After you beat the Fire Island missions, you have Glint Quests, Tombs, SF to keep in you interested. After you beat Shiro, you have a cool new weapon and nothing to do with it. (FTR, I like the weapons)

So... my recommendations....

1) Don't take away the top guild method of access.
2) Make a series of difficult PvE quests that unlock the area for individual players.
3) Stop the Ferrying. Paying the elite (or accepting a free ferry) doesn't make you elite.
4) Have one of the missions take place on a Borg Cube. The Borg make EVERYONE happy!
